Photodamage to the skin is caused by exposure to harmful ultraviolet light. Photodamage can be acute, as in sunburn, or more commonly, chronic, due to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one’s life. Sun exposure is by far the most influential environmental factor affecting aging of the skin.

Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. Wrinkles are also caused by movement of the skin resulting in increases over time.

Age spots are also known as sun spots or solar lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight such as the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest and face. The pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Using sun protection and appropriate skin care products containing speciality ingredients is essential in maintaining healthy skin.

With any skin care regimen it’s important to consult with your dermatologist or skin care specialist. He or she can analyze your skin care routine, tell you what’s working and determine what you can do to further enhance the health and beauty of your skin.

Always ask your physician for the appropriate products to use after a procedure since the regimen may differ depending on the type of procedure received.

We have not done any product testing on pregnant women or nursing mothers. We recommend you consult your physician before using any Photozyme products during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

DNA repair enzymes are naturally derived enzymes which mimic the body’s natural response to repair damaged skin cells.  The enzymes are encapsulated in a proprietary liposome, which allows them to penetrate deep into the skin where they need to go to work, stimulating the body’s natural process to repair.  The enzymes search and adhere to the damaged DNA strand only.  The cell’s natural process takes over, extracting the damage and replicating a healthy DNA strand.

When your skin is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, your skin cells become damaged.  In fact, the sun is responsible for approximately 80% of the damage we see on our skin.  Your body can only repair about 50% of the damage in a 24 hour period.  The DNA repair enzymes help your body repair the other 50% of damaged skin cells.  If the skin cells are not properly repaired, they will eventually reach the surface of your skin and present in the form of wrinkles, age spots, hyperpigmentation etc.  So it is essential to use DNA repair enzymes to help prevent damaged skin cells from reaching the surface of the skin and instead help to ensure these cells are healthy by the time they reach your skin’s surface.

Absolutely. The DNA Youth Recovery Facial Serum was designed specifically to work well with most other products.  It is a very light, creamy serum which penetrates the skin quickly, allowing you to apply other products including retinol almost immediately after the Youth Recovery is applied.  Because it is imperative that the DNA repair enzymes penetrate deep into the skin, it is best to always apply immediately after cleansing and before applying other products which may block the enzymes from doing their job.

The Photozyme Omega 36 Body Complex was formulated specifically for the body. The face is generally more sensitive than the rest of the body, therefore it is important to use products and ingredients which are meant to be applied specifically to the face.

The area surrounding the eyes is very thin and much more susceptible to irritation compared to the rest of the face.  It is best to use products like the Photozyme iQuad Total Eye Therapy which are formulated specifically for that sensitive area surrounding the eyes.

Photozyme products are formulated to work well with other skincare products.  Because it is essential for the DNA repair enzymes to penetrate deep into the skin, it is usually best to apply Photozyme products first before applying other skincare products.

Our products are not formulated specifically for acne prone or sensitive skin types, however research and feedback shows that Photozyme products are extremely tolerable for all skin types.

It is best to apply the DNA Youth Recovery twice per day, morning and night.

The serum uses L-ascorbic acid and is in more of a liquid formulation. The lotion uses tetrahexyldecyl (THD) ascorbate and presents in a more cream/lotion formulation very similar to our DNA Youth Recovery formulation.

L-ascorbic acid is water-soluble, meaning that it doesn't penetrate past the lipid barrier of the skin. This denies your skin the full nourishment available from a vitamin C product. Conversely, THD ascorbate is an oil-soluble ingredient that more readily absorbs into skin, penetrating below the skin's surface to provide moisture and antioxidant protection at a deeper level. If you've noticed that your skin still gets dry and uncomfortable after you use L-ascorbic acid products, it might be time to switch to a THD ascorbate serum.

THD ascorbate also doesn't oxidize as rapidly as L-ascorbic acid. When your serum reacts to the oxygen in the air, it could turn brown, possibly decreasing efficacy. THD ascorbate doesn't oxidize as quickly, giving it a much longer shelf life.

Since L-ascorbic acid has a lower pH range, it could irritate people with sensitive skin. THD ascorbate has a higher pH range that makes it suitable for people with a variety of skin types. If you suffer from sensitive skin, THD ascorbate products could offer the antioxidant protection and hydration you desire and have been unable to find.

It is important to note that many products claim to repair DNA damage when in reality the only ingredients that have been truly studied and proven to help the body repair DNA damage are the 3 enzymes in the Photozyme products. The first enzyme in Photozyme products is known as Photolyase or Anacycstis Nidulans. Otherwise known as plankton extract, it is a light activated enzyme derived from plankton.  The second enzyme is Endonuclease or Micrococcus Luteus. This is a UV resistant microbe which initiates the body to directly remove underlying cell damage caused by the sun. The third enzyme is Glycoslyase or Arabidopsis Thaliana which is a small flowering plant native to Eurasia. It detects UV light and mediates the response to this DNA damaging wavelength.
